Most of us have a specific way we like to work that helps us be productive. We have a set routine of how we like to do things to meet deadlines and accomplish our goals. Several things can be done to increase your productivity at work. These are just some things that work for me and a lot of things on this list are things that I would like to try out in the future to be more productive. Some things might not be suitable for some because, as I said, everyone has a different way of getting things done.
Take Care of Yourself
Taking care of yourself should be the number one thing to be productive and healthy in general. This includes your physical and mental health. Eating well-balanced meals during the day, getting enough sleep and exercise, can all go a long way in boosting your productivity at work. Let’s be honest, I have not done all of this and I bet a lot of you out there have not done so either.
My life consists of surviving off five hours of sleep and lots of coffee (which has to change soon). Another thing that I would like to try, is finding a time during the week where I can have peace and quiet. This would be an ideal time for self-reflection and improvement. I’m naturally an introvert; I find a lot of my energy comes from being alone away from large crowds. Some of you might be the opposite, where you have to be around people.
Take Mental Breaks
Taking mental breaks during the day is essential to being productive. It’s a good way to take a step back from all your work and take a breath. Not only will it help you get back feeling more motivated and feeling good, but it can also help give you a fresh view of your work from where you left off.
To-Do List
Create a to-do list to keep track of what needs to be done. I’m big on creating a to-do list to plan ahead. With so many things that need to get done during the week, I would be lost without it. Most of the time I keep a mental to-do list but it’s much better to write things down so you don’t forget or miss any task.
Set Goals
This is something that I also love to do because it makes my life much easier. I’m one of those people who love to plan and set goals, otherwise, I would never get things done. I find this very helpful, especially if you have a lot of due dates. Setting goals is especially important at VCC because I have to make sure that everything is set and deadlines are made every week. It is crucial to make sure that all ads are starting at the right time and date, making a mistake here takes a major toll on our outcome of success.
Don’t Multitask- Prioritize
When it seems like there are a lot of things going on, learn how to prioritize, take on one thing at a time. By doing that you will make sure that everything is getting done on time and not have a million tasks halfway done.
Break Down Tasks
When it comes to a big task, break it down and make it manageable. It can be overwhelming if a task feels like it’s too much. By breaking it down and setting smaller goals, it can make your life much easier.
If You Get Stuck, Move On
One thing that I have learned is that if I get stuck on something, move on to the next task. This is something that I’m not a big fan of because I might forget to come back and do it. But sometimes it must be done in order to not get behind on other things. It’s usually better to take a mental break from that task. The next time you will come back to it with a fresh set of eyes.
These are just a few things that can be done to personalize the way you work and increase productivity The key takeaway is to do what’s best for you and personalize the way you work.
